300个菲律宾非法移民被马来西亚遣返

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Another batch of 300 illegal Filipino migrants deported from Sabah, Malaysia arrived in the country Wednesday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said today.

DSWD regional director Zeny Arevalo said about half of the deportees have been processed and dropped in Tawi-Tawi and Sulu after they were determined to be residents of the areas, while 171 were brought to an intervention center here.

The country is expecting more illegal Filipino migrants to be repatriated from Malaysia as a result of the massive crackdown conducted against illegal aliens by Malaysian authorities.

Arevalo reported that the DSWD regional office has already over P7.5 million for assistance to some 9,288 Filipino deportees from Sabah since January this year.

Majority of the deportees or 88.9 percent were from the provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, while the rest came from other parts of Mindanao
